While he didn’t know what was going to happen and planned to stay out of it, Adam Levine immediately promoted Pharrell Williams to American Idol Season 21’s current competitor, saying he was great. Christina informed Malik that she realized something extraordinary was going on when she heard “some of those accurate, amazing runs,” and that she believed the two would make an excellent combination.

She went on to say:

“I would like to share my thoughts; go in your head; I really believe we can do this together.”

When Pharell Williams asked about his sources of inspiration, Malik mentioned Sam Smith, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and others. The Happy artist went on to say that he would deliver songs like that with one of the judges because he is a composer rather than a musician and would love to be a part of Malik’s path. The American Idol season 21 contestant eventually chose Christina Aguilera as his coach, and his most notable performance was in the Battle Round when he sang It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World with Byran Bautista. While Bryan won the round, Malik achieved a quadruple hold and was given the chance to choose his instructor again. He joined Pharrell Williams’ team but was dropped in the next round.
