Zafaryab Jilani’s Cause of Death and Obituary
Senior Counselor Zafaryab Jilani passed away on May 17, 2023 at a local hospital after a long battle with an illness. Najam Zafaryab, the son of the secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, verified the news to PTI. According to Najam, his father passed away at 11:50 am after a long illness. The grieving son also announced that the prominent lawyer’s final ceremonies would be held at Aishbagh cemetery in Lucknow on Wednesday night.
Jilani has been a topic of discussion for the past three decades. He did not participate in politics. Zafaryab Jilani is best known for his persistent advocacy for the Muslim side in the Ayodhya dispute. As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision, the late lawyer was appointed as the chairman of the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali is one of the well-known individuals who have expressed their grief over Jilani’s passing. Zafaryab Jilani, according to a senior cleric, contested the Babri Masjid case in multiple tribunals and served as the convener of the Babri Masjid action committee.
Zafaryab was also the secretary of several educational institutions. Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali added: “I pray to Allah that He forgives him and gives courage and strength to the people he left behind.”
He remained a central figure in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case. As the coordinator of Babri Masjid’s action committee, senior lawyer Jilani pleaded before the Supreme Court in the Ram Janmabhoomi case. He had previously served as the Additional Attorney General of Uttar Pradesh.

The senior lawyer’s family announced that he was rushed to hospital after slipping and falling. He spent part of his time in the hospital.
“His treatment has started and the doctors say his condition is stable for now,” he added. They have indicated that he may require surgery, but he is currently stable,” the lawyer’s cousin told the Indian Express.
Although the lawyer’s cause of death is not a cerebral hemorrhage, his health appears to have deteriorated after a cerebral hemorrhage in 2021.
