Matt was also physically active at Benson Polytechnic, playing football and basketball with his friends. After his entrance examination in 1977, he decided not to enroll in university, but to concentrate on a career as an actor and dancer.
Career as an actor
Matt made his film debut in 1980 when he was cast to play Young Danny McGuire (dancer) in the romantic fantasy musical “Xanadu”, starring Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly and Michael Beck, and which is about a performer who lives in Los Angeles meeting the girl of his dreams – the film won one award and was nominated for 10 others.
In 1981, he played The Boy Jim in the drama film “Rich and Famous”, while the following year he appeared in the musical “Olivia Newton-John: Let’s Get Physical”, written and directed by Brian Grant.
Matt’s breakthrough came in 1982, when he was cast to play Brad the musical comedy film “Grease 2”starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield and Lorna Luft, and is about a British student who must prove his worth to a girl gang as its members only date ‘greasers’.
In 1983 he played Bobby Chrystal in the comedy “My Tutor”, and in 1984 Matt made his debut in the TV series, playing a dancer in the pilot episode of the drama “Rituals”. He appeared uncredited in the short musical “Olivia: Soul Kiss” in 1985, while the following year he appeared as Larry Bartlet in the comedy film “That’s Life”, both written and directed by Blake Edward. Two of his next roles were in the critically acclaimed 1987 romantic comedy “Roxanne”, starring Steven Martin and Daryl Hannah, and the 1988 drama film “Blueberry Hill”, starring Carrie Snodgress and Margaret Avery.
Three of Matt’s last roles before he retired from acting were in the action comedy “Catch Me If You Can” in 1989, the sports comedy “Diving In” in 1990, and the drama series “Paradise Beach” in 1993.

Matt met Olivia Newton-John while they were shooting together for “Xanadu”, and they were married on December 15, 1984 in a private ceremony attended by their closest friends and family. On January 17, 1986, Olivia gave birth to their daughter Chloe Lattanzi, who has since become an actress and is known for her roles in films “The Wilde Girls”, “Dirty Step Upstage” and “Sharknado 5: Global Swarming”. Matt’s acting career ended in 1993 and he became a construction worker, eventually leading to his and Olivia’s divorce in 1995.

Dame Olivia Newton-John was born in Cambridge, England on September 26, 1948 – her zodiac sign is Libra and she has both British and Australian nationality. She has won four Grammy awards and has had five songs top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Olivia was raised alongside her older brother Hugh, who died in 2019, and her older sister Rona, who died in 2013, by their Welsh father Brinley ‘Bryn’ Newton-John, who was an MI5 officer, and their mother Irene Helene, who was a housewife. . When Olivia was six years old, the family moved to Melbourne, Australia after her father was awarded a Master’s degree at Melbourne University’s Ormond College.
Olivia attended Christ Church Grammar School and continued her education at University High School, graduating in 1965.
She started her career as a musician at the age of 14 when she formed her band Sol Four with three of her best friends – she next appeared in the musical TV series “The Go!!
