Wade Hayes was born on April 20, 1969 in Bethel Acres, Oklahoma, and grew up there. Don Hayes, his father, is also a seasoned country singer. Wade was motivated by his father to pursue a singing career. Ayes played the banjo as a child, and after seeing him do it, his father bought him a guitar. Then he started to perform it. When he was eleven years old, his family moved to Nashville, Tennessee.

His father signed a contract with an indie record company there, but it went bankrupt. They then return to Oklahoma. He also has two sisters, Stacey and Charity.
