Wade Hayes was born on April 20, 1969 in Bethel Acres, Oklahoma, and grew up there. Don Hayes, his father, is also a seasoned country singer. Wade was motivated by his father to pursue a singing career. Ayes played the banjo as a child, and after seeing him do it, his father bought him a guitar. Then he started to perform it. When he was eleven years old, his family moved to Nashville, Tennessee.

When he returned to Nashville, he teamed up with Chick Rains. He organized a singing tryout with producer Don Cook. (the Mavericks, Brooks & Dunn).
