Known for primarily funding documentaries, anime series, movies, and stand-ups, Netflix has also branched out into producing and distributing reality TV series. Their dating series ‘Perfect Match’, produced by Kinetic Content and created by Chris Coelen, is becoming a leader in the genre. Despite the name, only a few couples continue their romance after 12 hour episodes. We examined which friends still cherished their friendship after the finale aired on February 28, 2023.

The romance faded in most cases

Many contestants admitted that the show gave them hope to continue their romance after they left. However, the five couples who eventually matched quickly learned that their bond was a result of the isolation in the six-bedroom, five-bathroom house in Panama City, in a beach town called Playa Bonita.

The singles faced many obstacles after leaving, mainly distance; they came from different parts of the US, which was problematic enough. However, some were from Australia or Canada, or had relatives in Europe, such as Damian Powers, who was born in Germany. In addition, some participants still had former partners they hadn’t gotten over, and had to return to their busy lives as TikTok creators, dancers, realtors, and athlete managers, for example.

Dom Gabriel and Georgia Hassarati

Although Dom bonded with Georgia and left home with her, their romantic relationship didn’t last long. The media called their breakup messy, but the couple claimed distance was the main reason — after all, he is from Toronto, Canada, while she is from Brisbane, Australia. They weren’t each other’s first choice; Dom initially interacted with Francesca Farago. However, she eventually developed feelings for an old flame, Damian Powers, with whom she took part in ‘Love is Blind’. Fortunately, George decided to give it another chance when he ran into Georgia on a date with Chase DeMoor, and she later matched him. Their castmates recognized their connection and the two won the first season of the dating reality TV series, meaning expectations were high.

Unfortunately, the two slowly distanced themselves romantically after the cameras were turned off, citing the feeling that they were living in a bubble that eventually burst. However, they both shared a positive opinion of each other, calling each other “a great person” and stating that they were on good terms and felt that their relationship made them stronger. It’s unclear how long they were a couple and if they spent any time in person after that. Francesca claimed that Georgia had broken up with him three days after filming, to date Harry Jowsey. In contrast, shortly after the show ended, Dom suggested they were together when she joined the “Georgia and Harry Jowsey Fall in Love” podcast.

In addition, they both admitted that they never redeemed their fully paid trip. Lucky, she seemingly solved their problems on time. They still follow each other on social media and have shared screenshots of their chats, meaning they are in touch digitally. Dom even said if they meet again and the bond is strong they would go ahead and see where it goes.

Dom Gabriel and Ines Tazi

While Georgia moved on with Harry, Dom was connected to Ines Tazi for a good reason afterwards. She convinced him to stay at the Panama City house to see if he matched with anyone before meeting Georgia. Although she had herself in mind and confessed her feelings in the house, Dom did not break up with his girlfriend.

Moreover, after breaking up with Dom, Georgia accused them of flirting with Ines in the house on “The Viall Files” podcast. Despite those allegations and the fans “ship” the two after posting many images and videos on social media, Ines and Dom started not dating after the show, proving how strong their friendship is.

Dom Gabriel and Shayne Jansen

It’s not surprising that many same-sex cast members bond during the time they spend pursuing romance, and Shayne and Dom were great examples. Their bond was evident during filming, but grew in the real world. Calling each other “besties,” they share a love of fitness, swings, and a particular piece of clothing – a crop top, calling themselves “crop-top boys for life.”

Dom Gabriel and Zay Wilson

Dom also remained on good terms with Zay Wilson despite Zay’s early elimination meaning they had very little time to connect. However, after Dom left, he read his fans’ comments. He filmed many TikTok videos with Zay, even acknowledging the request to caption a lip sync video of the Jonas Brothers song “Burnin’ Up” with, “Y’all wanted more Dom & Zay content!”

Colony, Savannah, Diamond and Anne Sophie

Zay wasn’t the only cast member who went home early and lost the chance to befriend people given enough time. However, there were other reasons why viewers didn’t see any friendships forming. Some of the cast members have made meaningful connections and possibly long-lasting bonds behind the scenes. Still, viewers never saw it because episodes were edited a lot and had to follow exciting storylines. Diamond Jack revealed that she grew close to other women of color, Anne Sophie Petit-Frere, Colony Reeves and Savannah Palacio. In addition since she posted a video of them dancing and posing on March 2, 2022, she accidentally revealed that they got together pretty early, maybe even during the casting process. Whatever the timing, the ladies called themselves ‘the baddest girls in the house’, warning the others during the introduction not to play with them.

Chloe Veitch and Ines Tazi

Ines had many unsuccessful matches on the show and had an unlucky crush on Shayne Jansen, who she presumably had to see a few times as they were both friends with Dom. However, she befriended Chloe Veitch, whom Shayne left her for, and the two remained surprisingly good friends afterward. While neither seemed interested in women, some fans thought the two were engaged. That’s because Chloe posted their photo during a night out, showing Ines putting a ring on her index finger with the caption, “I SAID YES!” Ines continued the joke by saying, “Wifeyyyy PURPOSE. There can’t be a dull day with you in it!’ However, it was all very nice and they were just celebrating their friendship.

Even more surprising, Chloe and Ines befriended Chloe’s ex-boyfriend ex-fiancée, Natalie Lee, who starred in ‘Love is Blind’. Natalie accused Shayne of signing up for the Panama show while they were still together, and that the timing deals since casting began in September 2021. However, although Chloe said that the casting directors chose Shayne because they thought he was her ideal partner, the complicated history didn’t bother Chloe later.

Francesca Farago and Kariselle Snow

Francesca and Kariselle shared a close bond on the show, and being openly bisexual, they even kissed several times despite male matches. While Kariselle’s match, Joey Sasso, saw nothing alarming in that behavior, it bothered Abbey Humphreys, who matched Francesca alongside Dom.

They didn’t let those feelings affect their bond, however, and had each other go so far as to be called “a villain and her underling” by Chase DeMoor and viewers online. People also speculated that they had been close before the show, because they posted photos of herself cuddling at the Los Angeles Pride event during Pride Month, June 2022. However, they should have remembered that Netflix was filming the show in March of that year, which meant the two were in the real world for about two and a half months by then.

Kariselle Snow and Joey Sasso

Fans loved seeing the loving bond between Joey Sasso and Kariselle Snow, and the pair even got engaged when Joey proposed to her during the season finale. She said yes, but stipulated that he must get her father’s approval. However, after the show, the couple was quiet about their relationship, and fans had to dig deep and analyze their activities for information. Cariselle posted a TikTok video on March 3, 2023, stating that she came home from Panama and had to tell friends that she was back with an ex, who she had said would not return, but that they were also engaged. However, the video seemed like a skit, mocking the complex situation she had found herself in.

That brought light to one February 2023 interview that Joey gave to Newsweek magazine. He said they weren’t on the same page romantically and went their separate ways in that regard, but “see what life has in store for the future and feel like the divorced mom and dad of ‘Perfect Match.’ He added that he will always love and respect Kariselle and speak highly of her whenever he can, and Kariselle later said that they remain good friends keeping things civil.

Izzy Fairthorne and Georgia Hassarati

Georgia and Izzy have a history; they were cast members of the third season of ‘Too Hot To Handle’. Their bond deepened during their time in Panama, as they independently searched for their perfect match, but couldn’t find it. During the podcast accusing her ex-boyfriend Dom of flirting with Ines Tazi, Georgia shared that she has a lot in common with Izzy and that the two are good friends.

Zay Wilson and an unknown cast member

Zay Wilson attracted attention because he was the first to arrive at the villa and was one of the first to leave. As a reminder, Anne Sophie Petit-Frere chose bad boy Chase, but he felt his perfect match wasn’t in Panama. However, in a TikTok video he posted on February 24, 2023, he shared his followers that he dated someone from the show. However, he clarified that they are still working on getting past the good friends stage and would be “out” i.e. becoming official after a few more dates. While he didn’t reveal who it was, viewers with a good memory remembered him saying he was interested in Savannah Palacio. We now know that she is close to Anne Sophie, and both women told them TikTok followers that Zay showed romantic interest in Savannah at the villa. We have yet to see if the internet sleuths are right. It is also uncertain whether Zay and this mystery person will go public with their relationship or just remain friends.

All romantic relationships failed

Of the five couples who left the show while still romantically involved, none stayed together in the real world, and one even broke off their engagement. “Perfect Match” served as a social experiment, and the results were daunting when it came to finding love.

However, most of the participants found friends they could spend time with and collaborate with, making their stay in Panama far from meaningless. However, since the show recently went off the air, we’ve yet to see how long they can keep the connection, especially when distance, their occupation, and romantic partners come into the picture.
