Who is Jon Taffer?

American entrepreneur and TV personality Jonathan Peter ‘Jon’ Taffer was born in Great Neck, New York State USA, on November 7, 1954, making Scorpio his zodiac sign. He is known for a number of things, including for reality show host “Bar Rescue”, while probably best known for the concept of the NFL Sunday Ticket sports package that broadcasts National Football League (NFL) games not available on local affiliates; the program launched on September 4, 1994 on DirecTV and will switch to YouTube TV in September 2023.

Education and early life

Jon was raised in Great Neck by his mother Yvette Taffer and father whose name is not disclosed; he hasn’t shared many details about his parents, nor has he talked about having siblings, which is why Jon thought he was an only child.

He attended William A. Shine Great Neck South High School, and mainly engaged in sports during his time there, especially football. Jon enrolled in 1972, then enrolled at the University of Denver, then transferred to a university in Los Angeles, California, graduating in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree.

Jon’s career

Jon started working as a bartender at Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood in 1973, wanting to support himself financially while attending college; he was also a drummer in a local band at the same time.

He became the administrator of the nightclub The Troubadour in West Hollywood in 1978, and gained full control of it in 1981; this motivated Jon to become a bar owner, and he opened his first in 1989, patenting a method and device for selecting and playing music in the same year.

The NFL Sunday Ticket program package was launched in 1994, and Jon was instrumental in its distribution and marketing, leading him to serve on the board of NFL Enterprises for three years.

In 2010, he was named president of the Nightclub and Bar Media Group and subsequently inducted into the Nightclub Hall of Fame.

He published his first book “Raise the Bar: An Action-Based Method for Maximum Customer Reactions” in October 2013, in collaboration with author Karen Kelly.

Jon developed the nightclub management app BarHQ in November 2014.

He became the host of the CBS series “Face the Truth” in 2018, and in 2019, he hosted the reality show “Marriage Rescue”, in which he tried to save the marriages and relationships of 12 couples.

Jon today hosts his own podcast “No Excuses” where he interviews celebrities and talks about current events in sports and politics.
