Keyshia was only 12 years old when she started making music with American rapper MC Hammer – she also knew Tupac Shakur, who promised to help her with her career the night he died.
When she was 16, Keyshia joined the East Oakland Youth Development Center where she practiced singing, and after turning 18, she moved to Los Angeles, California alone to pursue a career as a singer.
Her career officially took off on March 23, 2004, with the release of her single “Never”, which subsequently served as the original soundtrack (OST) of the comedy movie “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” – on June 21, 2004, her debut album was released titled “As It Is”.
