Who is Anna Jay?

American professional wrestler Anna Marie Jernigan was born in Brunswick, Georgia, USA, on July 15, 1998, making Cancer her zodiac sign. She is currently logged in to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), as she attracted a lot of attention when she suffered a serious shoulder injury in February 2021; Anna was scheduled to compete in the AEW Women’s World Championship Tournament, but had to undergo shoulder surgery, which took her eight months to recover from.

Education and early life

Anna grew up alongside her younger brother Deke Jernigan and older brother Roby Handy Jernigan in Brunswick, by their mother Carla Herrin and father Handy Jernigan; not much has been revealed about Anna’s parents, as they prefer to keep their privacy, but it is known that they were both wrestlers in their twenties, and that today Carla is a real estate agent working for Signature Properties Group Incorporation.

Anna attended Glynn Middle School in Brunswick and became interested in sports during her four years there; she did gymnastics, ran and played volleyball, and was 17 when she started going to the gym. She graduated in 2016 and then enrolled at Glynn Academy, eventually transferring to College of Coastal Georgia, graduating in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree.

Career as a wrestler

It was in July 2018 that Anna started to prepare for her career as a wrestler with One Fall Power Factory, and suffered her first shoulder injury while working out in April 2019; she had to undergo surgery and recovered for five months.

Her wrestling debut was at The Battle of Altama charity event on September 14, 2019, and in January 2020, Anna faced and defeated Thunder Blonde at a Georgia Premier Wrestling’s hair vs. hair match.

She signed a contract with AEW in March 2020 and made her debut on April 1, 2020 when she appeared in an episode of the show “Dynamite” losing to Hikaru Shida. On June 17, 2020, Anna lost to Abadon on another episode of “Dynamite” but was offered help from the professional wrestling stable The Dark Order, leading her to join them. She and Brazilian professional wrestler and judoka Taynara Melo Guevara teamed up for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup tournament. They defeated Ariane Andrew and Nyla Rose in the quarterfinals, but then lost to Diamante and Ivelisse in the semifinals.

Anna faced and lost to AEW Women’s World Champion Shida on November 25, 2020, on another episode of “Dynamite”, as she and Conti teamed up on December 30, defeating Penelope Ford and Britt Baker.

As she then suffered the aforementioned shoulder injury, Anna’s next wrestling match was on September 1, 2021, when she saved Conti from being attacked by The Bunny and Ford; she entered the TBS Women’s Championship Tournament in November, but lost the first fight against Jamie Hayter. On December 31, Anna and Conti faced and defeated The Bunny and Ford in a street fight.

On January 21, 2022, Anna challenged and lost to AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill, while losing again to Jade on May 29. On July 20 at the Fyter Fest, Anna attacked American professional wrestler Dori Elizabeth Prange, aka Ruby Soho, thus joining the Jericho Appreciation Society, defeating Ruby during the Fight for the Fallen and strangling her with her own armrest .

Following her victory over Ruby, Anna began using Anna Jay AS as her new ring name, and she and Melo defeated Willow Nightingale and Soho on December 28, 2022 in a tag team match; Willow and Soho then defeated Anna and Melo on January 11, 2023.

Anna is very popular on Instagram and is followed by nearly 300,000 people on the social media network, while she has uploaded more than 450 photos and videos; most of these show her struggling, while others show her going about her daily life.

Anna had been hiding the details of her love life from the media until June 28, 2021, when both she and American professional wrestler Jack Perry – aka Jungle Boy – revealed they were in a relationship.

The two had known each other for a few months before going on their first date, and Jungle Boy’s also signed with AEW today, as he was once an AEW World Tag Team Champion along with Luchasaurus. He is one year older than Anna, has been with AEW since 2019 and most recently defeated Cage at the AEW Revolution 2023.
