Who is George Soros?

György Schwartz, better known as George Soros, was born on August 12, 1930 in Budapest. He has been described as a Hungarian-born American billionaire, philanthropist and investor. As a Jew, he experienced and survived the occupation of Hungary by Nazi Germany.

In the year 1947, he moved to the United Kingdom where he continued his education at the London School of Economics, and after completing his master’s degree, he started working in investment banks in the United Kingdom. He moved to the US in 1956 and founded Double Eagle, which later became Quantum Fund. This was his first hedge fund and formed the basis for Soros Fund Management. Quantum Fund has over $25 billion in assets; however, he has contributed more than $32 billion to charity.

George took on the Bank of England in 1992 during the Black Wednesday UK Currency Crisis and became known as ‘The Man Who Broke the Bank of England’. He did this by betting cleverly on the devaluation of the British pound, and reportedly sold $100 billion worth of British pounds and made a profit of $1 billion. This historic trade was credited with most of his fortune and fame, and he continued to increase his wealth, making him one of the world’s most successful self-made billionaires.

Before his marriage to Tamiko, George was married twice, first to Annaliese Witschak from 1960 to 1983, who produced three children, Robert Daniel Soros (born 1963), Andrea Soros Colombel (1965), and Jonathan Tivadar Soros (1970).

His second marriage was to Susan Weber Soros, an American historian 25 years his junior, and was from 1983 to 2005. They have two sons together – Alexander (born 1985) and Gregory (born 1988).

After his second marriage ended, George dated Brazilian actress Adriana Ferreyr for five years before they split in early 2010. He was reportedly still dating Adriana when he started seeing Tamiko.

Career

Shortly after graduating, Tamiko started working as a pharmacist in a high-end health facility while continuing her studies, which helped her become an educational consultant as well.

She used the knowledge she gained from working in the health facility to start an online business selling nutritional supplements and vitamins, and also started teaching yoga online.

She is a partner at the Soros Fund Management Company and regularly accompanies George across Europe when he speaks at economic events, often speaking at these events herself. Tamiko and George are regular contributors to organizations working to combat climate change, and the pair recently attended a UN summit to draw attention to the issue.

Private life

Tamiko reportedly got married in 1990, but other details like who her ex-husband is and when they divorced are unknown.

George Soros and Tamiko Bolton

Tamiko and George met at a dinner party in 2008, but kept their relationship private until they were spotted together at New York City’s Paley Center of Media for the 2012 screening of “The Intouchables.”

On August 10, 2011, George was hit with a $50 million lawsuit from his former girlfriend, Adriana Ferreyr, alleging that after not receiving many gifts from him during their time together, he promised her a $1.9 apartment million in Manhattan she found when looking for real estate. George instead gave the apartment to Tamiko, who was then slandered by Adriana to her lawyers and the apartment building board.

Tamiko was also accused in court of being a gold digger, due to the large age difference between her and George. Adriana turned violent during the hearing and physically assaulted George and his lawyers, prompting George to file a motion hoping to have the lawsuit dismissed. When Tamiko and George got married, Adriana’s attorney believed that since Tamiko doesn’t need the apartment, they could come to terms and settle the lawsuit; However, Tamiko still owns the apartment.

During a 2012 weekend getaway at a beach in the Hamptons, Long Island, George proposed to Tamiko, and the couple announced their engagement in August of that year.
