Sypra has made a name for itself creating powerful, electronic squirt guns, the first of which launched on Kickstarter in 2018. Now the company is adding a third water pistol to its range, aptly named the SpyraThree, and it includes additional modes for when you want to take your battles super seriously or are just looking for some casual summer fun.
Before we get into that, let’s take a look at what makes the Spyra more than just your standard Super Soaker – and why it can commandeer its eye-watering $179.00 price tag per gun. Like the SpyraTwo (which you can still buy for about $5 less), the SpyraThree features an electronic firing system that can spray people from about 30 feet away and send water nearly 50 feet when you charge a “PowerShot.” It too refills itself. Put the muzzle in some water, press the trigger forward and within a few seconds you are ready to blast further.
It also features a screen to tell you how full your tank and battery are. In a press release, the company says that with one full charge you can recharge the tank about 100 times, and that each tank will “take about 22 water blasts”, each hitting your opponents with a jet of 30 ml of water. with USB-C, that’s how it should be.
The SpyraThree has, you guessed it, three shooting modes, while the SpyraTwo only has one. Both have what Spyra calls a “League” mode, which lets you fire a limited number of shots before locking you in for a few seconds to “reload”, and gives you access to the extra PowerShot. (Side note: I love that Spyra marks this as its “tournament mode,” and I really hope there are people out there who take water gun combat as seriously as some people take airsoft, paintball, or Nerf.) However, the SpyraThree also includes a ” open” mode that lets you shoot as many times as you like without the artificial reload time, and a burst mode that fires three shots every time you pull the trigger. The company’s website does warn that using the latter mode will “empty your tank insanely fast.”
Personally, I’m not one to spend $179 on a water gun with a mode meant for competitive gameplay – there’s just no room for it in my life, although I kind of wish there was. However, I am very happy to see that this company is still going ahead and giving people who Are that seriously fights over water even more options.
