Paramount “plans to commission 150 international originals by 2025” for its Paramount Plus streaming service, according to a press release† The company revealed details on seven of the originals on Tuesday, including content from Germany, Italy, France and Mexico.
With this big investment, Paramount probably wants to see what kind of traction other platforms have gotten from their own international originals. Netflix’s Squid Game may be the most successful and became the streaming service’s biggest-ever series at launch, but it’s a French thriller she-wolf has also been a hit. If you are an Apple TV Plus subscriber, I would highly recommend pachinkoa drama about a Korean immigrant family who Apple recently renewed for a second season†
The announcement also comes just ahead of Paramount Plus’ expansion to the UK and Ireland, where it will be available from tomorrow, June 22. The service launched in South Korea this month in collaboration with Korean entertainment company CJ ENMwill be available in Italy in September, coming to Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland in December, and launching in India in 2023.
