Nvidia says it has a fix for a recently discovered issue where Discord’s background openness was limiting the performance of some graphics cards. According to a tweet from the companythe patch is downloaded automatically when you log into Windows, so you don’t have to bother manually downloading a graphics driver or other software update.

The problem, which affected systems with cards like the RTX 3080 and RTX 3060 Ti, was apparently caused by a recent Discord update. It kept GPUs from reaching their maximum memory clocks, at around 200MHz. That was accompanied by a slight performance throttling when playing games, which isn’t exactly ideal since Discord was created to help you talk to friends while gaming.

According to Nvidia, the fix will come as an app profile update. That used to be the case possible to apply manuallybut the process wasn’t exactly easy and involved downloading a profile manager and then exporting, editing and re-importing profiles.
