We don’t know much about the plot of the film yet – according to Netflix’s official description, it will take place in Greece — but Johnson shared a little bit about his take on the franchise in a thread on Twitter†
Something I love about Agatha Christie is that she never stepped into creative water. I think there’s a misconception that her books use the same formula over and over, but fans know the opposite is true.
It wasn’t just settings or methods of killing, she was constantly stretching the genre conceptually. Under the whodunnit umbrella, she wrote spy thrillers, proto-slasher horrors, serial killer hunts, gothic romances, psychological character studies, glam travel stories.
when i made Blades offthat’s what got me excited about the prospect of creating more mysteries with Daniel as Benoit Blanc – to emulate Christie and have each movie be like a whole new book, with its own tone, ambition, reason for being.. …and (ta dah) title.
Netflix landed both this sequel and another last year in a deal reportedly worth more than $400 million. Johnson will also direct the third film and Craig will also star in it.
