Joyce was raised as a single child in New York City by her Jewish parents – her father was the owner of a small jewelry store, while her mother was a nurse who worked at a local hospital.

Joyce met Bruce Springsteen at a party during his 1978 US tour – Bruce asked their mutual friend Gary Busey to introduce them, and Joyce ended up spending the rest of Bruce’s tour with him. It is widely believed that the two broke up once the tour ended, but kept in touch and still occasionally saw each other for several years afterward.

She met a year after her and Bruce’s affair ended Warren Beatty, an American actor and producer, when she appeared in one of his films. Warren was not loyal to his girlfriends in the past, and Joan Collins, the actress he dated before meeting Joyce, had an abortion after getting her pregnant and left him because he was unfaithful.

Warren and Joyce dated for a year before separating and in 1992 he married Anette Bening – they have four children together.
