PewDiePie faces huge social media anger after allegedly mocking a deaf TikToker in his recent video. Since then, the inventor has been constantly criticized on Twitter, and he has been proclaimed a capable person as people strive to cancel him.
The Swedish YouTuber is one of the most popular creators on the platform. In his most recent video, titled – My Dog Cringes at TikToks, the 32-year-old reacts to videos that make him “cringe” next to his dog, Maya. PewDiePie responds to TikTok founder Scarlet May’s video in one of many videos. The 21-year-old influencer can be seen in the video and talks about a hilarious interaction at a fast food drive-thru. She is shown explaining the incident with her long silver acrylic nails using sign language.
The YouTuber briefly stops the video while watching and says:
“I’m not paying attention. Maya, look at her wild nails!”
He then holds his dog’s paws with both hands and waves them, clearly making fun of TikToker’s American sign language. He also says:
“Sorry, are my nails bothering you?”

Needless to say, PewDiePie has received a lot of criticism for the video and subsequently deleted the tape of him responding to Scarlet May. He also tried to hide his wrongdoing, but his fans had already recorded the footage and shared it on social media.
Who is Scarlet May? TikTok Creator Responds To PewDiePie’s Latest Video
Scarlet May, born January 6, 2001, is a 21-year-old TikTok creator with more than 6.2 million followers. Her fans love her “story time” videos, which often feature her intricate manicures. TikToker is known for uploading movies in both spoken English and American Sign Language. In early 2020, the Rockford, Illinois resident opened her account. Performing the Renegade dance for K Camp’s Lottery is one of her most popular videos. Her Deaf Kardashians series also helped her gain a lot of popularity on her Instagram.
May’s video became popular when PewDiePie’s response to her TikTok video went viral. She also spoke about the footage in a TikTok video on Wednesday, captioning it:
“I hope he learns from this, because we all make mistakes.”
She addressed the questions people probably asked her during the video. She mentioned:
“How am I feeling? I thought it was strange and unnecessary, but I’m not shocked because I’m used to it. It is a big problem in the deaf world that I have tried to normalize and bring to light: the use of nails while drawing is normal and acceptable. But then here comes a great creative who throws us back a million steps, which is incredibly annoying.”
The 21-year-old went on to say that if someone had told the story with long nails without having to sign, they wouldn’t have been mocked, going on to say:
“But since I have long nails and had to draw to communicate, he stopped the video after two seconds and didn’t even listen to the story, and kept laughing at me with his dog.”
May also addressed the YouTuber directly, stating that he has no right to “just insult deaf individuals who have been fighting for years.”
