Laura McKeeman was born on October 2, 1988 in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA, to American parents of English-Scottish descent. She has always considered her mother, Deborah McKeeman, as her best friend even growing up, but nothing is known about her father, and she has been rumored to have a missing brother, but so far she has not confirmed the gossip or denied. She spent her early years in Celebration, Florida where she attended Celebration High School. During her school days, she devoted her spare time to dance activities. Her initial plans were to finish ballet school, but instead she attended Florida University where she graduated with a degree in journalism while also working on the school’s radio station as part of the sports broadcast team . She won the 2011 Red Barber Award for Excellence in Broadcasting, awarded to her by the university.

Laura began her professional career as a sportswriter as a sideline reporter for Fox Sports.

The story goes that a conflict escalated between one of the Fox reporters and management, leading to the reporter’s firing, making finding a replacement quite urgent. This moment was crucial for Laura Rutledge, who got the chance for her first appearance on the television screen. Her coverage was so well received that she was hired to fill the role permanently.

One of her early jobs was covering Fox’s coverage of Tampa Bay Rays baseball games, and later expanded to her coverage of San Diego Padres games. She also did field coverage of the 2012 NCPA’s National Paintball Championship in Lakeland, Florida, for Fox College Sports.

In 2013, she hosted “Chargers Insider” for the San Diego Chargers, as well as “SD Live” – an original show on Fox Sports San Diego, for which she also served as a producer.

In the summer of 2014, Rutledge expanded her portfolio and joined ESPN and the SEC Network both behind the desk and on the television screen. The same year, she hosted the Coors Light Post Game show that aired on Fox College Football, as well as the halftime programs for FSN college football games. She worked as a reporter and commentator on various sports, before becoming the host of ‘SEC Nation’, the SEC Network’s pre-game show for college football.

She has also been a red carpet host at events such as the “Home Depot College Football Awards” and the “ESPYs”. She served as a mainstay in ESPN’s coverage of the College Football Playoff, as well as the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships, and the Women’s College World Series and College’s World Series. The main sports she covers are college football, basketball, baseball, softball and gymnastics.

In the fall of 2019, she became a regular contributor to “Get Up”, ESPN’s morning show, after the departure of Michelle Beadle, and has also signed a multi-year contract extension, the second agreed with ESPN, the first signed in 2018. She decided to go for Rutledge after seeing her amazing performance in similar positions for CNN’s “New Day” and “Early Start”, as well as HLN’s “Morning Express with Robin Meade”. She is also a regular at a “SportsCenter”.

He played for the “Alabama Crimson Tide” until 2012 and then played Major League Baseball for the “Colorado Rockies” before being traded to the “Boston Red Sox” in 2015. The two met on duty, during his great days in baseball – he played in the game, she covered it, and the rest is history. The marriage appears to be a happy one as Laura has spoken openly about her husband’s support both at home and in her career on many occasions. Josh retired from sports professionally in 2018 and currently works as a free agent.

The couple have a daughter, Reese Katherine Rutledge, born Laura’s 31stst birthday, on October 2, 2019. The family also has a dog, Remi.

Accident on the field

On November 19, 2018, Laura was reporting to the sidelines from Sanford Stadium, Athens, Georgia, USA, when she was caught in a collision between two soccer players and knocked to the ground. One of the players who slammed her was Prather Hudson, who played for University of Georgia, who took it upon herself to write an apology on Twitter — with a twist!

“Hey @LauraMRutledge, I’m really sorry for knocking you down, but… I can pick you up at 7,” he said wrote. Sure, Hudson was denied with a laughing emoji, and the tweet got a lot of negative attention from Josh Rutledge’s ring, but the incident and aftermath got them both a lot of media attention, so we don’t think anyone’s really upset about Hudson’s stunt.
