Mike Nesmith was born in a house where his mother was the sole breadwinner. One story is about how his mother got rich as a result of what most people would call a mistake. Bette Nesmith, Michael’s mother, worked as a typewriter and was annoyed by the many mistakes she made when typing. Mistakes forced her to restart her efforts.
Surprisingly, she created the first correction fluid in her home using the family blender. Bette called the liquid “mistake” because she had no more typos. The liquid was thereafter called Liquid Paper. Bette later sold the liquid paper to Gillette for $1.6 billion.
