Children of successful parents often manage to exceed their family’s expectations. Such is the case of Mauricio Umansky, a child of a real estate and TV star personality, who went on to become one of the biggest names in the real estate industry. Who is Mauricio Umansky and who is his equally successful wife?
Early life and education
Mauricio Umansky was born on June 25, 1976 in Mexico City, Mexico. He and his sister, Sharon Umansky Benton, were raised by their parents, real estate agent Eduardo Umansky, and Estella Sneider, a famous Mexican TV personality, sex therapist, author, psychologist, and socialite, best known for appearing in the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”.
Sometime during Mauricio’s childhood, she and Eduardo divorced and Estella was awarded custody of their children. Through his parents, Mauricio is of Russian, Greek Jewish and British descent.
When he was just a few years old, he was diagnosed neutropenia, a condition that occurs when a person has an abnormally low concentration of a certain type of white blood cell called neutrophils. People with this condition are much more susceptible to bacterial infections and can even develop fatal neutropenic sepsis. This forced Umansky to spend years under various hospital treatments.
After graduating from a secret high school, Umansky enrolled at the University of Southern California, located in Los Angeles, but dropped out before graduating so he could focus on starting his own business.
Career
Umansky started his entrepreneurial career by creating his own clothing line called “90265”, but sold it after only a few years, apparently at a huge profit. He then joined the real estate business part-owned by his brother-in-law, Rick Hilton, called “Hilton and Hyland”.
After learning useful tips and tricks about real estate, he launched his own real estate company, simply named “The Agency”, specializing in luxury properties in the Beverly Hills Area. He had great success and was soon doing business with many famous Hollywood faces such as Michael Jordan, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and Sofia Vergara. He even won the prestigious Golden Palm for having the most innovative large company in Beverly Hills.
With his success increasing, Umansky began appearing on various TV shows, such as “Fox Business” and “NBC’s Today Show”; he also sometimes appears on his wife’s TV show, “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”. His other appearances on reality TV shows include “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles”, “E!’s Rich Kids of Beverly Hills”, and ABC’s “Job or No Job”.
Married to Kyle Richards
Umansky met the actress Kyle Egan Richards at a private event, through their mutual friend. They started dating in 1994 and got married two years later on January 20, 1996. Just a few months later on June 19, 1996, they welcomed their first daughter whom they named Alexia. Their second daughter was born on January 18, 2000 and their third daughter Portia sometime in 2008.
Richards is best known for her roles in films such as ‘Halloween’, ‘The Weather in the Woods’, ‘Down to Earth’ and ‘The Car’. She also has her own clothing line and owned a chain of boutiques under the name “Kyle by Alene Too” which closed in 2018. In 2011, she published her memoir – “Life Is Not a Reality Show: Keeping It Real with the Housewife Who Does It All”.
This is not Richards’ first marriage as she was previously married to her high school sweetheart, Guraish Aldjufrie, and the two had a daughter together named Farrah Aldjufrie. They divorced in 1992, but still share a close friendship. Their daughter even once said: ‘He’s very close to my mom and Mauricio, like they’re great, good friends. I always say I have two fathers; they both raised me.’
She also said that Aldjufrie refers his clients to Umansky all the time and they all go on vacation together.
As of May 2020, the family lives in a large mansion in Bel Air, Los Angeles.
Private life
His wife, stepdaughter and daughters have all been on the show “The Real Housewives” – the episode focused on their expensive birthday parties.
A big fan of golf and tennis, Umansky also spends his spare time flying his helicopter.
His house was on December 27, 2017 robbed and burglars stole more than $1 million worth of jewelry, including $150,000 worth of watches. The thieves were never caught.
He and his family love to go on luxury vacations – one of their favorite places is Aspen, Colorado, where they go skiing and snowboarding. They even have a private jet!
Umansky has a Hollywood doppelgänger in the actor John Turturro, who is known for his appearances in “Quiz Show”, “The Big Lebowski” and “Barton Fink”. One of the first photos that pop up when you search Mauricio Umansky on Google is an image of Turturro.
In 2013, there were rumors that Umansky was cheating on his wife with a female escort and a transsexual prostitute. The gossip started when Toni Newman, a transsexual and escort, claimed that one of her escort partner’s clients was Umansky. Umansky denied these claims, while Richards declined to comment. As of May 2020, there is no public evidence of these stories.

Umansky has made huge profits from his real estate business. As of May 2020, his net worth is estimated officially around $100 million, although this may be conservative as his company reportedly makes around $150 million each year. He sold one of his homes for a whopping $68.5 million! According to the company’s website, he has $350 million worth of real estate in his inventory, and The Wall Street Journal listed him as the number one real estate agent in all of California and number three in the entire US. Since launching, his company has sold more than $1.5 billion worth of real estate.
At the same time, it is estimated that his wife, Kyle Richards, earns around $270,000 annually from her various reality TV appearances.
The couple lives in an $8.2 million mansion in California that spans 10,600 square feet, with seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and an 800-square-foot outdoor balcony. They also own a home in La Quinta, California, which they bought for $2.35 million in 2014. Their former home in Beverly Hills, which they bought for $3 million in 2011, was listed for sale by The Agency for $6.99 million!
