Khaby Lame gained more than a million followers in eight days, dethroned Charli D’Amelio and became the most followed person on TikTok. Lame had 140.7 million app followers as of June 15, 2022, while D’Amelio had 141.3 million. Lame has 143.1 million at the time of writing, while D’Amelio has 142.2 million. The original Tiktokroom announced the news on their Instagram page and reactions from netizens have been mixed. Some congratulated Lame, while others felt D’Amelio deserved more followers than he did.

“I’m not going to lie, he’s boring. “My biggest flexibility is that I’ve never followed him,” said one person. “Wasn’t he embarrassed and criticizing the facial features of Asian people?” asked another person.

A third user said the TikTok queen probably didn’t care about TikTok anymore because she was too busy doing her own thing. Some even claimed that Lame bought the followers to dethrone D’Amelio. Lame and D’Amelio have not yet commented on the news.

The Ascension of Khaby Lame and Charli D’Amelio

D’Amelio was the reigning queen of TikTok for a long time and her popularity on the platform was unsurpassed. She joined the app in 2019 and quickly gained a large following thanks to her viral dance routines. In 2020, she became the first person to reach 100 million followers, and she celebrated with a video.

The TikToker commended her followers for their support throughout her TikTok journey, as well as TikTok for making this feat possible. She described the experience as strange and encouraged followers to continue to support her. For a long time no one seemed to be able to compete with the TikTok queen; that is, until April 2021, when Lame entered the app. Lame was a factory worker before joining the app, but he lost his job during COVID-19. Instead of looking for other work, he spent his free time making movies on the app. Lame is known for his dialogue-free parody video, signature expressions and palm movements.

His sense of humor propelled him to such popularity that the social media analytics site Socialblade reported that he accumulated an average of three million followers per month, compared to D’Amelio’s one million.

Khaby Lame has always enjoyed making others laugh since he was a kid.

Lame said in an interview that he has loved the humor and making people laugh since he was a kid. He was motivated after seeing his hero, Will Smith, on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. “I looked at Smith and told him I wanted to be like him.” I wanted to make people laugh, since most artists were concerned with getting rich or famous. “That wasn’t what I wanted,” Lame noted of his decision to pursue a career in comedy.

He went on to say that he started making movies because he enjoyed them and wanted to make others laugh. He believes the secret to his success was that he loved what he achieved before allowing others to appreciate his works. He enjoyed reading comments about how he brightened someone’s day. It inspired him to stay consistent.
