Early life and education
Josh grew up in Frankenmuth along with his twin brother Jake and their two younger brothers, by their father, who is a businessman, and their mother, who works at a cleaning company. All four brothers started listening to music at a very young age, while Josh first started practicing on a toy guitar he got for his birthday.
Josh also spent much of his free time in front of the TV watching movies, dreamed of becoming a famous actor and is still very much interested in venturing into the film industry.
He was very physically active growing up, playing soccer with his brothers, their parents taking them on skis every winter. While they spent their winters high in the mountains, the four brothers always carried guitars and someone was always playing and singing. After graduating from high school, Josh did not enroll in college, but rather focused on his career as a musician.

Josh grew up listening to musicians like Keith Richards, John Denver and Eric Clapton and many others while his favorite band is Led Zeppelin, which his own band Greta Van Fleet is often compared to, while Led Zeppelin’s frontman Robert Plant stated on several occasions how Greta Van Fleet is a talented group.
Josh, Jake, their younger brother Sam and Kyle Hauck formed the band in 2012 while the idea for the band’s name came from the name of a Frankenmuth resident – Gretna Van Fleet.
The first two songs they recorded were titled “Cloud Train” and “Standing On”, and this was before Kyle Hauck left the band in October 2013 and Danny Wagner replaced him as drummer. Their first extended play (EP) was recorded in one take on February 28, 2014, including the songs “Standing On”, “By the Riverside” and “Down to the River”.
They became somewhat famous after the release of the song “highway tuneon January 17, 2016, and after it was performed live on the ‘Shameless’ Showtime show.
The song’s music video came out on April 19, 2017 and their EP called “Black Smoke Rising” followed on April 21, with Apple Music naming Greta Van Fleet as their new artist of the week. Their first tour was in May 2017 with the band The Struts.
Greta Van Fleet received the Best New Artist award at the Loudwire Music Awards in October 2017 and released their EP “From the Fires” on November 10th. In January 2018, Elton John asked the boys if they would like to perform at his Academy Award Party held on March 4, 2018 which they accepted, and from there the boys made their TV debut on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. on July 26, 2018.
Their debut album titled “Anthem of the Peaceful Army” was released on October 19, 2018 and became the best-selling album by selling over 80,000 copies in its first week and reached #3 on the Billboard 200. They were nominated for four Grammy Awards in December 2018, winning Best Rock Album. Some of the songs they recently released are “Lover, Leaver” and “Always There”, the soundtrack to the movie “A Million Little Pieces”.
Love life and relationships

The two allegedly met at a party thrown after the band performed at a pub, and were introduced by a mutual friend who thought they would be a match. They have reportedly been together for over a year now while keeping the details of their love life hidden from the public. Before he started dating the mystery girl, Josh was reportedly in a relationship with his high school sweetheart for over three years, but after his band became famous, the girl reportedly became overly jealous, which led to their breakup.
