Jeff Wittek files suit against David Dobrik for causing the excavator accident

Dobrik is being charged with general negligence and willful tort, according to TMZ. Wittek suffered several injuries in an excavator accident in 2020, including a broken foot and hip, a ligament fracture and several skull fractures. Wittek is now suing for $10 million in damages for health care expenses, loss of salary and loss of income.

What went wrong in the relationship between David Dobrik and Jeff Wittek?

In 2020, Jeff Wittek and David Dobrik joined in on a prank for the former’s YouTube channel. The purpose behind the prank was to use an excavator to pull individuals onto wakeboards. People started riding the excavator with the help of a rope with the passage of time. According to Wittek, Dobrik took his turn too fast and accelerated the car to the point where it looked dangerous. Dobrik stopped the truck immediately after realizing his mistake, causing Wittek to crash into the machine with considerable force.

He was hospitalized for many weeks as a result of the event, in which one of his eyes was almost permanently injured. Wittek required numerous procedures. Since then, the two YouTubers have had a tense relationship. Wittek detailed his experience in a five-part YouTube series called DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME. He said David Dobrik had no contact with him after his first hospitalization:

“I woke up after my surgery. A day goes by without a text from him. Another day goes by without text. I check his Instagram because it’s the first one to show up because of the algorithm or something. “Oh, I’m so happy with my life now,” he says. ‘My vlogs and stuff,’ he was just promoting his vlog.’

Wittek invited Dobrik to his channel for an explanation, and the two tried to reconcile. During their conversation, Dobrik revealed that it was an accident and not on purpose. Wittek also said at the time that he would not press charges because the incident was an accident and not Dobrik’s full responsibility.

Wittek, on the other hand, announced in February 2022 that he was done being “false buddies” with Dobrik. He sounded annoyed with Dobrik for not contacting him after his surgery. He even said,

“No. No. It’s text or nothing. Not that I’m shocked. That’s all there is.”

David Dobrik later commented on Wittek’s injuries in March 2022:

“I’m sorry this occurred to you, Jeff. And I wish it was easier to deal with.”

The words seemed to annoy Wittek, who said he would stop “slandering” Dobrik on the internet and “let the courts decide.” This was the first time the YouTuber mentioned legal action. He also said that Dobrik was making false claims and that he wanted him to admit his mistakes in the court papers.
