There is a saying: “If you don’t make time for your well-being, you will be forced to make time for your illness.” I think this is a crucial concept to live by. Prioritizing health should be the most important aspect of one’s life because not taking care of your brain and body can leave you unable to achieve goals – or worse. Throughout my life and career, I’ve adopted a routine to maintain my health to ensure I perform at my best during the day and that positive momentum can boost my business. These are my best tips.
Get up early, manage your time and set detailed goals.
Long before I plunged headfirst into the wonderful world of vacation rentals, I had a job delivering donuts. This role taught me many valuable lessons about work ethic and developing good habits, including the benefits of getting up early and setting goals for each day. Regardless of what industry you work in, join the “5 AM club” can give you more time to prepare and organize your day, leading to improved productivity and success.
When I first wake up, I make it a point to answer emails and messages to get a good idea of what needs to be accomplished that day. Then I outline my tasks and set specific goals to help me stay on track and evaluate what the most pressing items are. This helps immensely in completing tasks and makes me feel less stressed.
Waking up early is especially useful during very busy periods when working late is not an option and there seem to be not enough hours in a working day. In general, being aware of how you manage your time is one of the most important tools for giving yourself an edge on the game, especially when you wake up before the game.
Be mindful of how you fuel your body and your brain.
Being aware of the nutrients and “fuel” you put into your body is essential to building a healthy body and mind. Eat well, exercise and sleep well lead to benefits such as more energy, more focus and more discipline.
Since my schedule is often packed, I’ve found that making time to prepare meals helps me stay on a regular schedule and not be tempted to eat unhealthy fast food when I’m on the go. Preparing meals can also save money and time, reduce stress and contribute to a balanced diet.
Exercising during the day is a great way to clear your mind while also making your body stronger and sharper. Exercising allows me to be more present at work and aware of the decisions I make, leading to improved creativity and collaboration.
A disciplined lifestyle infused with energy produces more energy. By giving your brain and body the power they need to perform, you can reach new levels of productivity while your competitors struggle to keep up.
Practice discipline, but also know when to delegate.
While it is possible to strategize and plan how to improve our lives, our dreams and goals won’t work if we don’t. Maintaining discipline when it comes to lifestyle habits and routines is essential to success as there is no substitute for hard work. Create an intentional routine, equipped with healthy food and exercise, and dedicate the time and work to follow it, even when life gets tough.
When I work in vacation rentals, I witness the happiness people share when they make memories together while on vacation. This made me realize that knowing when to take a break is just as important as a disciplined lifestyle. You limit your success and drive yourself to burnout by holding on to the idea that you are solely responsible for your company’s success, when in reality you need a team.
Sticking to a schedule, maximizing your energy, and taking time for yourself every once in a while can lead to incredible results, both in your personal and professional life.
