Government levies 20% export tax on rice

Because of the bad rain in Major rice producing states such as Uttar PradeshBihar and West Bengal, the Center on Thursday imposed a 20 percent import duty on the export of various types of rice.



According to an Ministry of Finance notification, 20 percent export duties: on husked rice, husked rice and wholly milled rice, which would apply from 9 September.

The move would help curb rice prices across the country.

The decision to impose a 20 percent export tax on rice comes after wheat exports were banned in May.

Insufficient rainfall in rice-producing states has raised concerns about poor production, leading to the imposition of export duties on the commodity.
