Luxury automaker Audi is gearing up to launch its flagship sedan – the Audi A8 L – on July 12 in India. This move comes after sales grew a healthy 49% year-on-year in the first six months of the year, driven by new product launches and demand for its Audi e-tron range, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi A4, Audi A6 and S/RS models.
This growth has somewhat diminished gloomy luxury car sales in recent years. Luxury car sales peaked in 2015 and sold 31,000 units in India, but have been on a downward trend since then.
At the peak of the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020, Audi’s India chief
said that luxury car sales would take two to three years to reach the levels they saw in 2014-2015.
Although it has come a long way, there has been a trend recovery in car sales in general – including luxury car sales – over the past year.
German auto giant Audi said on Friday it sold 1,765 units, supported by electric vehicles, between January and June 2022.
“We continue to lead the way with our electric vehicles – the Audi e-tron 50 and 55, the Audi e-tron Sportback and the Audi e-tron GT range. Our petrol engine portfolio, including the Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi A4 and Audi A6, is doing well and our S/RS models continue to shine with a strong order bank for 2022,” said Balbir Singh Dhillon, Head of Audi India.
The company plans to launch its flagship sedan, the Audi A8 L, in India on July 12, 2022.
The German carmaker is also looking to expand its used car business in India. Audi India, which currently operates 16 ‘Audi Approved: plus showrooms’ in all major hubs in the country, aims to launch four new used car facilities by the end of 2022.
